FACTIONS AND TERRITORIES
In order to encourage combat, usage of powers, and player-made events, Exodus uses a territory system. Factions, which can be established by players when they have purchased the benefit from the IC shop, can establish headquarters in certain non-neutral areas of New Otford. They will receive a sub-board and general assumed control over the area, meaning they can enforce arbitrary rules over the region and enforce their regime. Factions cannot stop players from creating and joining threads in the area (except from the private sub-board), but they can antagonise unaligned or opposing characters in open threads. This control is entirely IC and no moderation rights are given to the owners of the board.
Outside of the claimable areas, which will be offered to those starting a non-nomadic faction, there are both neutral and contested regions. Neutral areas are for all players and cannot be owned or controlled by any faction. The governing force is the state and any attempts to take the area will be met ICly with brute force (OOCly, any attempts will result in a GI for all involved and automatic/default failure). Contested areas are a free-for-all for all factions, including the unaligned. They can be occupied by factions who may win it by challenging the current controllers (if there are no factions occupying it, the challengers must face state-forces played by admins). Factions who win a contested area have a cooling down period of 48 hours before they can be successfully challenged again. Contests/challenges should be tagged as 'CONTEST', and should follow combat rules. Once every participant has posted (with a maximum of four members per side) in order, a summary will be written by an admin before the next turn commences. This helps participants to keep track, and ensures that rules are being followed. After a maximum of eight turn, or once one team is forced into submission, the conclusion will be drawn by an admin and players will be left to complete their roleplay before it is locked.
Contesting and maintaining territory gets better than just the prestige and power. A successful contest earns $50 for every winning participant and $500 cash total in the group. Controlling a sector for over 72 hours earns the faction a cash total of $100 per member (total members) every 24 hours, which adds up until the end of every week whereby all members will receive an equal cut of the cash total earned.
Beneath, you will find (in spoiler tags due to the size of the image), a comprehensive map of the districts of New Otford. Pink locations designate a neutral, unclaimable district; white locations designate a currently unclaimed and uncontested district. Any other color represents the faction that controls the territory currently.
