FACTION INFORMATION
Exodus encourages characters and players to choose or make factions for their characters in order to get the most out of their experience. Characters are not required to do so, however, and may remain entirely unaligned. Groups must be formed using the 'Headquarters Ownership' purchase from the store, although nomadic 'groups' may be formed of friends unofficially. Faction creators normally have total control over the operation, lore, and hierarchy of their group, and are generally involved in the process of accepting members inside. Nonetheless, OOC discrimination is not permitted regardless of grudges and not allowing members into your group must be justifiably explained to admins.
Factions can be essentially anything lore-friendly, although all must be approved by admins before they earn a place on this thread. Membership is always publicly shown here (unless you create an authorised secretive group), but players cannot metagame knowing identities and alignments without ICly finding out or without the player's permission.
Each faction has a treasury of some sort. Total cash is tallied here for transparency, and all members receive a cut of the cash total (which can be accrued through contesting and holding territories) at the end of every week, where it will be reset to $0.
A group's standing and power is also recorded through the amount of contested territory held in the form of 'influence'. Successful challenges earns the group 50 influence 'points', holding it earns 20 for every 24 hours, and active roleplaying in the area (suggesting increased presence) earns 10 points (for every three full turns in the thread). Influence points can turn a contest in a group's favour as admins may bring in exterior NPC forces that can reinforce their powers during the summary.
Current Factions
S.T.U.N
STUN, or the Super Tactical Unit of New Otford, commissioned by Mayor Thomas Swift in Late 2019, is a force consisting primarily of Superpowered individuals, operating as contractors in the interest of maintaining public safety. As a result of their commissioning by the Mayor, as opposed to a federal state power, STUN is given no governmental or police impunity and are expected to follow the law as much as any standard citizen. A STUN Operative is paid for their work, quite a decent wage at that, and as such, the unit attracts Supers simply looking to make money by using their powers.
Given that STUN are now seen as practically an off-shoot of the police, or a mercenary group contracted by New Otford, they have almost the same practical impunity as the police, and this leads to regular abuse. STUN are not the posterboy heroes they once were, and they certainly aren't the glorified pencilpushers from 2019. This is worse. Much worse.

Defiance Front
Originally formed as a peaceful liberation group, aimed at defeating the segregation that Supers face, the Defiance Front have since undergone a huge upheaval. With new, aggressive tactics while taking the style of a gang-militia crossover, the brute-force leadership has left many in doubt of their motives. Intending on the not-so-peaceful overthrowing of the established government, the Defiance Front centres on trying to take districts of the City to hold, indoctrinate, and extort. While some still in the group are set on pursuing peaceful change, many are also militant, and often prejudiced to the unpowered. Members are exclusively powered - there have yet to be any exceptions to this rule. Officially, they are dead - however, we all know what that really means.
